Week in Review Sept. 4th-9th

Labor Day marks the end of summer. bummer. But that doesn’t mean your summer fun has to end right away! There are plenty of events in Kansas City this week that will help get your creative juices flowing!!

Tuesday Sept. 4th

Hollis Chatelain Evening Lecture: “The Emotion of Color” 7-8 p.m.
Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Atkins Auditorium

Since 2000, Hollis’ work has progressed into monochromatic. Working in just one color has been an interesting and exciting adventure. Art can carry a strong emotion and specific colors reinforce these emotions. Hollis will be speaking about the evolution of color and how we can use different colors to emphasize what we want to say in our art.

ADVANCE TICKETS REQUIRED – no admittance without tickets. Only $10 for full-time students and $15 for others.

Thursday Sept. 6th

Fashion Night Out returns to Kansas City!!! Modeled after this biggest shopping event of the year in New York City, Kansas City helps kick off Fashion Week with Fashion Night Out!! Held at the Country Club Plaza from 5-10 pm various events will be going on all night, fashion shows, cocktail hours, DJs and huge discounts!!  For more specific info visit FNO Official Site.

Kansas City Fashion Week kicks off the 5th and the closing show is Sunday the 9th. Fashion week will feature local designers, like recent Fiber alum Whitney Manney and other designers from around the nation.  Runway showcases start the 7th.  For more info and to purchase tickets visit Kansas City Fashion Week.

Frames Per Second: Endless the second installment of the Frames Per Second, featuring time based media, is at Plug Projects this Thursday night, 7-8pm. For more information visit Plug Projects.

Friday Sept. 7th

September First Fridays offers a variety of openings and continuing exhibitions.  Sissel Tolaas SmellScape KC opens at Grand Arts.  Fiber Department friend, Laura McGrew will have her shop TOMBOY open for first friday, Manifest Destiny opens at La Esquina and Fiber alum Debbie Barrett-Jones showcases her work at 2009 Baltimore Gallery.
